This is magical Don Quijote country, as yet untouched by tourism ... vast fertile plains, fairytale castles and wonderful windmills. Its capital is the charming city of Toledo - ancient capital of Spain. Picture-postcard pretty, its cobbled streets are packed with architecture from Moorish, Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance periods. Cuenca is well-worth a visit, with its beautiful landscapes, 15th century hanging houses, Gothic cathedral, and Museum of Abstract Art. Other places of interest include the modern city of Albacete - well-known for wine - Guadalajara, Ciudad Real, and Consuegra - with its huge windmills. Plans have been agreed to construct a huge gambling and leisure complex in the province of Ciudad Real, 190 kilometres south of Madrid. Building should start at the end of 2006, with completion set for 2008. The complex will include a casino, luxury hotel, spa centre, shopping mall, theatre ... New motorways and an international airport are also planned. popular placespopular sightsremaining regionsCheck out the other, wonderfully varied, regions of Spain at the links below.
