Spanish Food Recipes ... tasty turrón
What, exactly, is turrón?
Well, it's a sort of sweet, candy or nougat, made mainly out of almonds and honey, whose origins go back to the sweet-toothed Moorish conquerors of Spain.
Nowadays, it's recognised very much as Spain's Christmas-time sweet.
You'll discover numerous varieties on offer in shops but, basically, there are two main types ...
A brittle, hard type of turrón ... and a soft one.
Both are delicious - the ideal ending to a celebration meal, accompanied by a small cup of coffee.
Is any one Spanish area particularly well-known for producing turrón?...
Yes, in fact most turrón comes from Alicante Province, where I live - in particular, around Jijona.
Not so long ago, we visited a turrón factory. It was wonderfully clean and well-organized ... and the products superb!
Below, you'll find a simple recipe for home-made turrón, so that you can enjoy it anytime, and not just at Christmas.
In fact, it's one of the sweet tapas recipes in my Spanish Tapas E-book ... along with 299 other amazingly simple tapas recipes. Most of them savory, of course.
But, now for your home-made turrón recipe ...
