Am a little late delivering the newsletter
this month - got rather carried away doing
out an apartment!

I ve four apartments in Benidorm which, for
those of you who are unfamiliar with it, is
a popular tourist resort on the Mediterranean.

The apartments are usually let out on 12-month
lets rather than short, holiday lets, to people
who are living or working out here (I still use
a short-term contract or "arrienda de temporada"

One became vacant a few weeks back after being
occupied for a long time and I thought it was
time to spruce it up, give it a lick of fresh
paint and buy some new furniture.

So ... have rather neglected this newsletter!
However, the apartment is now finished, let out
once more, and I m free to get this written!

Carrying on with the above theme and on from last
month s checklist about buying property in Spain,
thought I would just go over a few guidelines for
those considering letting their property in Spain.

If you are interested in this topic, you will find
a full article about it at:

The main points to remember are:

always give a contract
make an inventory
take a deposit
give receipts

When I am looking for tenants, I just place an advert
in the local English newspaper and deal with all the
letting personally.

When I advertised this time, an agency phoned who
wanted to handle the letting for me. There seem to
be many such agencies sprouting up all over Spain,
wishing to let real estate of all kinds, be it for
long or short term.

Although I was not interested, other owners might have
been for, with all the competition about, the agency
would not have charged a commission to the proprietor
but to the tenant(s).

So, if you are thinking of letting your property and
don t want to do it yourself, it might be worth checking
out some of these agencies. I have to add that I have
never used one and have no personal experience with
them though! I dare say that, as with everything else,
there are the good and the bad!

I had an email from Canada this last week saying that
the first snows have started there. Also, family in
England are complaining about the weather ...

Although there has been rain recently in the north
of Spain, the weather has been lovely where I am!
The sometimes searing heat of the summer has
subsided to be replaced by gentle sun.

Local beaches, although not packed with bodies like
the summer months, are still full. However, the
age range now differs. Instead of young people and
families, there are more retired people enjoying
the sun and reduced autumn/winter prices.
