WHAT'S IN THE SPANISH PRESS?

Doesn't time pass quickly?

Last month, all eyes were on the America's
Sailing Cup - taking place in Valencia.

This month, Press and Media have been having a
field day with one of Spain's best-known,
traditional Spanish singers - Isabel Pantoja ...

Last week she spent a night in the cells
due to her supposed involvement in Marbella's
ongoing "Operación Malaya" Scandal ... but
has been let out on bail of 90,000 euros.

"La Pantoja", presumably a bit strapped for
cash and hungry for political power, began
an affair with one-time Marbella mayor -
Julian Muñoz - who's now in prison for
swindling millions of tax-payers' money.

Isabel has been accused of receiving and
laundering huge sums of money from Julian
Muñoz. But, of course, theirs was a
romantic love affair - they were deeply
in love ... planned to marry ... and live
happily ever after (on tax payers' money?) ...

Well, Julian's divorce has just come through.

It will be interesting to see whether love
will conquer all and they marry ... now that
the money has flown out the window, and Julian is
in clink ...

Maybe you should keep an eye on property repossession
listings - Andalucia in particular! ...

LEARN SPANISH WORDS AND PHRASES - MONEY

As this month's news is so money-oriented, let's
learn a few words and phrases to do with that
very important topic!

el dinero - money
comprar - to buy
vender - to sell
¿Cuánto cuesta? - How much is it?
ganar dinero - to earn money
robar - to rob/steal
dinero negro - illegal money
blanquear dinero - to launder money

Worried that your Spanish wouldn't be up to it if
the Police decided to hand-cuff you and excort you
down the cells?

Basics of Spanish:

CHRISTIAN LYRICS IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH

Fortunately, not everyone is so fixated on
worldly gain - as the popularity of our pages with
Christian lyrics in English and Spanish is
witness.

For those of you with both Spanish and English-
speaking Church members, here are the lyrics to
one beautiful Christian song:

YOU LAID ASIDE YOUR MAJESTY

You laid aside Your majesty,
Gave up everything for me,
Suffered at the hands
Of those You had created.

You took all my guilt and shame,
When You died and rose again,
Now today You reign,
In Heaven and Earth, exalted.

I really want to worship You, my Lord,
You have won my heart, and I am Yours,
For ever and ever,
I will love You.

You are the only one who died for me,
Gave Your life to set me free,
So I lift my voice to You
In adoration.

TÚ DEJASTE A TU MAJESTAD

Tú dejaste Tu Majestad,
Diste todo por mí,
Sufriendo en la Cruz
Por los que Tú creaste.

Mi culpa tomaste Tú,
Al morir y resucitar,
Y hoy Tú reinarás
Sobre todo, exaltado.

Sólo quiero adorarte, mi Señor,
Mi ser ganaste y tuyo soy,
Por siempre y siempre,
Te amaré.

Sólo Tú eres quien murió por mí,
Para darme libertad,
Por eso alzo mi voz
En alabanza.

TASTY TAPAS RECIPE

Now that the weather is finally warming up (in
Spain at least!), we thought you'd like a
recipe for gazpacho.

It's not your usual gazpacho recipe - made from
tomatoes, peppers and cucumber.

It's a white gazpacho - made from almonds ...
and is superb when garnished with peeled and
de-seeded white grapes.

Delicious, and easy-to-make, it's also an
unusual, eye-catching starter when entertaining.

WHITE GAZPACHO - GAZPACHO DE ALMENDRAS

Ingrediants

100 gr almonds - blanched, skinned and chopped
3 cloves garlic - peeled and chopped
4 slices bread - soaked in water 10 minutes, water squeezed out
4 tablespoons white wine vinegar
100 ml extra virgin olive oil
Water
Seasoning

Method

1. Place almonds, garlic and bread in food processor.
2. Add a glass of water and blend until smooth.
3. Mix in the oil, vinegar and seasoning.
4. Add sufficient cold water to form a “soupy” consistency.
5. Chill in fridge, and serve icy cold.
