Who wants to enjoy some nice, easy to make spanish drinks?!

When you take a break in your day for a refreshing drink ... what do you usually have?

More often than not, it will be a cup of coffee.

As well as being enjoyable, it gives you that slight "lift".

But ... what do you do if you fancy a coffee whilst in Spain - and the weather's boiling hot?!

The answer is, you choose a granizado de café!

You'll find this drink readily available in Spanish cafés and restaurants - especially during the hot, summer months.

A granizado is a sort of mushy, icy drink with a straw in it!

You sip a little liquid from the glass ... wait awhile for some more to melt ... then drink a little more ...

Included in the recipe below is Tía María - renowned Spanish coffee liqueur - which adds flavour and gives the drink extra kick!

However, this is entirely optional ... as is the cinnamon powder.

easy to make spanish drinks - granizado de café

Ingrediants

  • 5 heaped teaspoons instant coffee
  • ½ litre water
  • 1 liqueur glass Tía María
  • 1 dessertspoon sugar
  • Pinch cinnamon powder
  • Method

    1. Boil together water and sugar.
    2. Add Tía María.
    3. When boiling, remove from heat and add coffee.
    4. Cover quickly to preserve coffee aroma.
    5. Leave to cool.
    6. Place in freezer until ALMOST frozen.
    7. Mush with electric mixer into thick purée.
    8. Mixture should be fairly solid, but in small particles.
    9. Serve in a glass with a straw.
