olive oil and cholesterol
This beautiful liquid gold is renowned worldwide for reducing the risk of heart attack. How come?...
Particles of low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol build up and stick to the walls of your arteries causing atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries.
This narrows your blood vessels, increasing your heart's workload as it struggles to pump oxygenated blood throughout your body, very often resulting in a heart attack or stroke.
Olive oil - with its high content of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants - controls and prevents the LDL cholesterol from oxidising.
olive oil anti inflammatory
Your body will use the healthy, monounsaturated fats in olive oil to produce natural anti-inflammatory agents, effectively lowering the severity of arthritis and asthma.
olive oil ibuprofen
Ibuprofen is a common analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug, used for relieving such pains as headache and arthritis by blocking enzymes which cause this pain and inflammation.
Scientists are agreed that extra virgin olive oils contain the same inflammation-fighting compound (oleocanthal) as Ibuprofen.
We have Dr Gary Beauchamp to thank for this discovery, who recognised that the tickle in the throat experienced when tasting high-quality olive oil was similar to that found during his testing of liquid Ibuprofen.
Oleochanthal in extra virgin oil is particularly beneficial when used cold drizzled on salads, char-grilled vegetables etc.
breast cancer olive oil
The oleic acid present in olive oil is thought to reduce the amount of a cancer-triggering gene often found in high levels in women suffering from breast cancer.
Tests also point to oleic acid boosting the effectiveness of a breast cancer drug called Herceptin.
olive oil constipation
Do you suffer from constipation?... Chances are you've discovered over-the-counter laxatives result in even more problems!
Take one tablespoon of extra virgin oil first thing in the morning, another an hour after your evening meal, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and the problem should disappear!
