Air Travel To Spain

With Spain being such a popular tourist destination, direct air travel to Spain is usually no problem at all.

Obviously, if you are prepared to spend the time looking around - especially on the net - you will usually be able to find plenty of cheap flights, should you so wish.

This is particularly so if you are able to travel to Spain slightly off-season; but, even in July and August, you can often find some good bargains in the "cheap flight Spain" category.

If you had a particular fancy to travel to Spain using the country s national airline, then this would be with Iberia (IB), though you would not, necessarily, be able to get a cheap airfare.

Spain has a good number of airports scattered throughout the mainland and its islands. Its major international airports are of a high standard, with a wide range of facilities, and are being improved all the time to meet the demands made on them by the ever-increasing number of tourists who arrive from all over the world.

I have just listed the main ones below, followed by a brief description. All of these handle both international and domestic flights.

Barajas Airport is about 12 kms to the east of Madrid center.

There is a regular and frequent bus service from the airport to the city center; also the metro/subway/underground.

There is a large taxi rank outside the terminal building and you will find several leading car hire companies based at the airport.

Barcelona s El Prat Airport is situated about 12 kms to the south-west of the city. Terminal A serves non-Spanish airlines and Terminal B serves Iberia International flights.

There is a regular and requent bus service from the airport to Barcelona city and regular trains to the Barcelona Sants Station.

You will find a large taxi rank outside the terminal building and several car hire companies at the airport.

If you travel to Spain and are aiming for the South - perhaps the ever-popular Costa del Sol - then M laga Airport, situated about 6 kms to the west of M laga, is the one for you.

There is a regular train service outside the International Terminal which takes you to M laga City and Fuengirola.

Also, a bus stop located just outside the Main Arrivals Hall, with frequent buses from the Airport to M laga City.

There is also a direct coach service from M laga Airport to Marbella Bus Station.

The taxis can be found outside the Arrival Terminal door and, again, there are several car hire companies at the airport.

Should you be heading for anywhere on the Costa Blanca in your travel to Spain, then the El Altet Airport, which is about 11 kms from the city of Alicante, would be the one to pick.

There are regular buses from the airport to the cities of both Alicante and Murcia.

Also, recently, a direct coach service has been introduced between the Airport and Benidorm - the major tourist center of the area.

There is a large taxi rank outside the terminal building and several car hire companies at the airport.

Valencia Airport is about 8 kms from the city, with a regular bus service to the city, a large taxi rank, and car hire companies.

San Pablo Airport is situated about 10 kms north-east of the city center, with regular buses to the city, a large taxi rank, and car hire companies.

As air travel to Spain is so easy and you can often get a cheap airfare, I have included a few tips on buying cheap flights, although not everyone will want to go for the discount route:

Find out how much "normal" air travel to Spain would cost you so that you can compare it with a cheap flight Spain.

If you can go off-season, you will pay much less for your cheap flight Spain.

Flexibility pays: you can often get much better cheap flights if you are able to move your travel dates just a few days.

Buy your cheap airfare three weeks in advance for the best price.

Allow sufficient time on any stop-overs to catch the second part of your flight.

Check exactly what is being included in the price of your cheap flight Spain - airport fees, taxes, etc.

Find out what happens if you need to cancel/delay your cheap airfare.

If receiving tickets for those cheap flights, immediately check them over carefully - ensure the name and travel dates are correct.

Whether you pick a cheap flight Spain or a luxury one .... I hope you enjoy your air travel to Spain!
