As you can see from the map of Spain above, andalucia - or andalusia - lies deep in the sultry south of Spain. Spain´s largest region, it comprises 8 wonderful provinces, each named after its capital city - Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Jaen, Huelva, Málaga and Seville. The sophisticated city of Seville is also the regional capital. Famed for flamenco, fiestas and bull-fighting, Andalusia was one-time stronghold of Muslim Spain. Teeming with superb historical sites, glorious countryside, majestic mountains, fantastic beaches, sophisticated cities, white-washed villages ... There are so many things to do and see in southern Spain that it´s difficult to know which to choose and where to start! The spectacular Sierra Nevada slopes lure the most demanding ski fanatic. Picture-postcard pretty white villages beckon, and nature-lovers chomp at the bit to get to Doñana Nature Park. As for the cities ... they´re jam-packed with architectural jewels evocative of other eras ... Seville - located on the Guadalquivir River - is home to a superb cathedral with its Giralda Tower. Granada boasts one of Spain´s most popular tourist sights - the Alhambra with the Nazaries Palace and Generalife Gardens. Cordoba - one-time capital of the mighty Islamic Kingdom - has the magnificent Great Mosque and Cathedral. Cadiz - thought to be the oldest city in Europe and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean - offers its cathedral. There are a myriad of other glorious towns, each with unique appeal ...
