always remembering that the main purpose of extra virgin olive oil is purely for pleasure! …

Freshly-pressed extra virgin olive oil, with its sunny color and sublime taste, is not only an absolute joy to see and taste … it also offers you the most amazing health benefits.

Without getting too technical, let’s take a look at just some of the advantages you’ll gain by using this natural product which has taken the gourmet world so much by storm.

For example, it reduces the risk of heart attacks, improves high cholesterol, is an anti-inflammatory, relieves pain and constipation, protects against breast cancer …

… And it’s enjoyable!

This beautiful liquid gold is renowned worldwide for reducing the risk of heart attack. How come?…

Particles of low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol build up and stick to the walls of your arteries causing atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries.

This narrows your blood vessels, increasing your heart’s workload as it struggles to pump oxygenated blood throughout your body, very often resulting in a heart attack or stroke.

Olive oil – with its high content of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants – controls and prevents the LDL cholesterol from oxidising.

Your body will use the healthy, monounsaturated fats in olive oil to produce natural anti-inflammatory agents, effectively lowering the severity of arthritis and asthma.

Ibuprofen is a common analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug, used for relieving such pains as headache and arthritis by blocking enzymes which cause this pain and inflammation.

Scientists are agreed that extra virgin olive oils contain the same inflammation-fighting compound (oleocanthal) as Ibuprofen.

We have Dr Gary Beauchamp to thank for this discovery, who recognised that the tickle in the throat experienced when tasting high-quality olive oil was similar to that found during his testing of liquid Ibuprofen.

Oleochanthal in extra virgin oil is particularly beneficial when used cold drizzled on salads, char-grilled vegetables etc.

The oleic acid present in olive oil is thought to reduce the amount of a cancer-triggering gene often found in high levels in women suffering from breast cancer.

Tests also point to oleic acid boosting the effectiveness of a breast cancer drug called Herceptin.

Do you suffer from constipation?… Chances are you’ve discovered over-the-counter laxatives result in even more problems!

Take one tablespoon of extra virgin oil first thing in the morning, another an hour after your evening meal, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and the problem should disappear!

round-up on extra virgin olive oil benefits …

Substituting saturated and polyunsaturated fats with the monounsaturated fat found in delicious extra virgin olive oil is the easiest and best way to improve your general health.

But you must not use olive oil purely for its health benefits, for the main blessing of this liquid gold is that it can be a delicious and enjoyable base to your diet.

Each quality, first-pressed, extra virgin olive oil has its own unique flavor, depending on the olives used, the area grown, and the way in which the oil is made.

Experiment with different types – drizzle over fresh salads, combine with colorful vegetables to form a delicious gazpacho, or simply dip a piece of fresh, crusty bread into it.
