In actual fact, La Bamba is an old, traditional song from the state of Veracruz in Mexico – it dates back over 300 years.
But Ritchie made it popular in 1958, giving it a rock rhythm.
Sadly, Ritchie died tragically in 1959 and, in 1987, Los Lobos made a wonderful film – “La Bamba” – about his life.
